Flowery Happy Mother's Day Card-Friday, April 29, 2011

Mother's Day is coming soon and with it cards, flowers, and gifts.  I think that creating a card for that special mom in your life will mean to much to her.  I know as a mom and from giving my own mom cards, that the homemade cards always meant the most to her.

I created this card using my faithful Cricut Create personal cutting machine.  It was so easy to do and can be created from any color combination of cardstock that your mom likes.  There looks to be quite a few steps and that is because I wanted to show exactly how to create the cutouts.  

It can be confusing in that the keyboard picture picture isn't always the same as the end result, but by using the create keys on the left side of the keyboard causes the cutout to be either a section of your final cutout creation or a sentiment .  Give it a try!

Speed: Medium

Cardstock: A heavier weight cardstock

The flowers and "Happy Mother's Day" sentiment both cutout best using a heavier cardstock which can be found at any scrapbooking supply stores.

For the words, I have found that using the "Flip" feature on the keyboard works best if your paper is only colored on one side.  The flip feature cuts out the sentiment backwards on the top, then when you flip the paper over you see the words correct.  That way the cutout is clean and has no frays on the bottom side.

Step by Step

Step 1

For a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card you will want to cut out a printed cardstock background measuring 4 1/8" x 5 1/4".   Adhere the printed cardstock background to the card base.

Step 2

Directions are for cutting out two of the flowers

Flower top layer: Cut two <Flower2>, pg 39, size 2" using Layer 1 and flower2 keyboard key. Color: Pink

  Step 3

Flower bottom layer: Cut two <Flower2>, pg 39, size 2" using Shadow and flower2 keyboard key. Color: Green

Step 4

Flower Ring: Cut two <Flower2>, pg 39, size 2" using Layer 2 and flower2 keyboard key. Color: Peach. You will only use the ring part of the cutout.

Step 5

Flower Face background: Cut two <Flower2>, pg 39, size 2" using Layer 3 and flower2 keyboard key. Color: Green

Step 6

Flower Face front: Cut two <Flower2>, pg 39, size 2" using Layer 4 and flower2 keyboard key. Color: Peach

Step 7

Adhere the pink flower to the green background on each flower.

Step 8

Adhere the peach ring onto the pink flower.

Step 9

Adhere the green background just inside the ring.

Step 10

Adhere the peach face to the green background. Be sure to punch out the small eyes and mouth if needed.

Step 11

Sentiment: Cut one <NstDoll2>, pg 40, size 2" using Word, Shift and NstDoll keyboard key. This will give you the background "Happy Mother's Day". Color: Pink

Step 12

Sentiment: Cut one <NstDoll1>, pg 40, size 2" using Word, and NstDoll keyboard key. This will give you the intricate "Happy Mother's Day".

Step 13

Adhere the sentiment to the center of the card. I tilted mine a bit for fun.

Step 14

Adhere each flower to the card.

Step 15

You can make small dots or dashes on the sentiment for added embellishment.
