Friday Fun: Easy Homemade Card Idea made with your Cricut

As I was looking out on the bleak landscape near my home, I was mentally saying a cheerful goodbye to winter and looking forward to spring weather along with cheery Cricut easy card ideas.  Saying that, my idea for this card came from a desire to use my Winter Woodland Cricut Cartridge before the season was over and to say "so long" to the winter season.  Ideas for cards are easy to come up with when you have a Cricut Personal Cutting Machine. Homemade cards are not only fun to make, can be less expensive than a store bought card, but ideas for cards will come to you quite a bit; in fact, you will use any excuse to make a card.
There are many blogs and websites, along with HubPages on how to make a card along with scrapbooking ideas too. In fact the two crafts tend to go hand in hand because most of the scrapbooking supplies including 12"x12" cardstock and the embellishments all can be used for homemade cards and scrapbooks.

Supplies & Settings:
  • Cartridge: Winter Woodland
  • Card Size: 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
  • Speed: Medium
  • Blade Depth: 2
  • Pressure: High
  • 3 Shades of coordinating plain cardstock
  • 1 Printed piece of cardstock
The intricacy of the snowflake design doesn't work well with thinner printed papers.  If you decide on a printed snowflake, you would get the best results finding a heavier quality printed & plain cardstock from a scrapbook supply store or a department store with craft & scrapbook supplies.

Step 1:

Cut three of the <Snowflk4> page 35, Using Shadow/Blackout, Real Dial Size, with three different colored cardstock:
  • 3 1/4"
  • 3 1/2"
  • 3 3/4"
Step 2:

Cut 1 square of a coordinating print cardstock to a 5 1/4" x 4" size.

I use the Cricut 12" paper trimmer for basic square cutouts.  It does a great job and is very accurate.
The kit pictured is very essential for your Cricut crafting projects.  All the tools and some really nice scrapbooking cardstock is included.

Step 3:
Using your favorite adhesive or clear adhesive dots:

  • Affix the Printed Square to the front of your card
  • Affix the biggest snowflake background 3 3/4"

  • Affix the next biggest snowflake background 3 1/2"
  • Affix the smaller snowflake background 3 1/4"

Step 4:
Turn off the Real Dial Size option if you still have it selected.
  • Cut 1 <Snowflk4>, page 35. Settings: Layers key, Size 3 1/2"
  • Cut 1 <Snowflk4>, page 35. Settings: Layers key, Size 3 1/4"
  • Cut 1 <MgcWntr>, page 68. Settings: Shift key, Size 1 1/2"
  • Cut 1 <MgcWntr>, page 68, Settings: No Shift key, Size 1 1/2"
Step 5:
Using your favorite adhesive, I prefer Small Adhesive Dots:
  • Affix the 3 1/2" intricate Snowflake to the card front
  • Affix "The Magic of Winter" background to card front
  • Affix the more intricate "The Magic of Winter" on top of the background cutout

  • Affix the 3 1/4" intricate Snowflake to the card front

Step 6:

The front of your card should now look like this.
If you choose, cut 3 smaller snowflakes for embellishments on the front, <Snowflk4>, page 35. Size 1"

Final Step:

Embellishment:
If you choose, find a small pretty bow for scrapbooking and glue it to the center of your snowflake.
Now you have a card celebrating the magic of winter along with hoping for it to end soon.
